Montgomery Gentry is an American country music duo composed of Eddie Montgomery (brother of country singer John Michael Montgomery) and Troy Gentry. Gentry and both Montgomery brothers originally comprised Early Tymz, a country band which had local success in clubs throughout the state of Kentucky. After John Michael Montgomery left for a solo career, Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry began performing as a duo. Both members of the duo alternate as lead vocalists.
Signed in 1999 to Columbia Records, the duo released its platinum-certified debut album 'Tattoos & Scars' that year. They have since recorded five more studio albums: 'Carrying On' (2001), 'My Town' (2002), 'You Do Your Thing' (2004), 'Some People Change' (2006), and 'Back When I Knew It All' (2008) as well as a Greatest Hits package. These albums have produced more than twenty chart singles for the duo to date on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts, including the Number One hits "If You Ever Stop Loving Me," "Something to Be Proud Of" and "Lucky Man," as well as ten more Top Ten hits.
There's a story that my daddy tells religiously
Like clockwork every time he sees an opening
In a conversation about the way things used to be
Well I'd just roll my eyes and make a bee-line for the door
But I'd always wind up starry-eyed, cross-legged on the floor
Hanging on to every word
Man, the things I heard
It was harder times and longer days
Five miles to school, uphill both ways
We were cane switch raised, and dirt floor poor
'Course that was back before the war
Yeah, your uncle and I made quite a pair
Flying F-15's through hostile air
He went down but they missed me by a hair
He'd always stop right there and say...
That's something to be proud of
That's a life you can hang your hat on
That's a chin held high as the tears fall down
A gut sucked in, a chest stuck out
Like a small town flag a-flyin'
Or a newborn baby cryin'
In the arms of the woman that you love
That's something to be proud of
So I'm graduatin' college, that was mama's dream
But I was on my way to anywhere else when I turned 18
Cuz when you gotta fast car you think you've got everything
I learned quick those GTO's don't run on faith
I ended up broken down in some town north of L.A.
Working maximum hours for minimum wage
Well, I fell in love, next thing I know
The babies came, the car got slow
I sure do miss that old hot rod
But you sure save gas in them foreign jobs
Dad, I wonder if I ever let you down
If you're ashamed how I turned out
Well, he lowered his voice, then he raised his brow
Said, lemme tell ya right now
That's something to be proud of
That's a life you can hang your hat on
You don't need to make a million
Just be thankful to be workin'
If you're doing what you're able
And putting food there on the table
And providing for the family that you love
That's something to be proud of
And if all you ever really do is the best you can
Well, you did it man
That's something to be proud of
That's a life you can hang your hat on
That's a chin held high as the tears fall down
A gut sucked in, a chest stuck out
Like a small town flag a-flyin'
Or a newborn baby cryin'
In the arms of the woman that you love
That's something to be proud of
That's something to be proud of
Yeah, that's something to be proud of
That's something to be proud of
Now that's something to be proud of

Phil Vassar is an American country music singer-songwriter and pianist. Vassar made his debut on the American country music scene in the late 1990s, co-writing singles for several country artists, including Tim McGraw ("For a Little While," "My Next Thirty Years"), Jo Dee Messina ("Bye, Bye," "I'm Alright"), Collin Raye ("Little Red Rodeo"), and Alan Jackson ("Right on the Money.") In 1999, he was named by ASCAP as Country Songwriter of the Year.
Later that same year, Vassar was signed to Arista Nashville as a recording artist. His debut album, 'Phil Vassar,' was released in early 2000; it produced five hit singles on the U.S. Billboard country singles charts and was certified gold in the United States. He followed it in 2002 with 'American Child, Shaken Not Stirred' in 2004, and finally Greatest Hits, Vol. 1 in 2006 before Vassar left the label for Universal South Records. His first album for that label, 'Prayer of a Common Man,' was released in early 2008.
Overall, Vassar's five studio albums have produced fifteen singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts, including two Number Ones: 2000's "Just Another Day in Paradise" and 2004's "In a Real Love"
Winter sure was cold and miserable
Cooped up, shut down, baby it was pitiful
Anyhow, it's over now
We owe to ourselves to have a little fun
The pace car's pacin' now the green flag's wavin'
Uh, oh another six-pack summer comin'
Sing to me babe I'll be your dashboard drummer and
Let's turn the radio up as loud it can go
Got the ultra-ray wraparound sunglass visio
