Free Coldplay

Coldplay will allow fans a free download of the lead single from their upcoming fourth studio album ‘Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends.’ Starting tomorrow (April 29), the song "Violet Hill" will be available for a week at the British rock band's Web site. The track, which will be serviced to radio from tomorrow, will get a conventional paid-for digital release on May 6. Coldplay also has a free gig at New York City’s Madison Square Garden in the work for June 23rd. A competition for tickets will be announced on the band’s official website in the near future.

Kid Rock Sells Himself Short

An email blast sent out by The Q Arena today announced that a limited amount of specially priced $9.99 lower bowl tickets for Kid Rock’s upcoming May 17th concert have been made available. No word on the exact number, but expect it to be VERY limited. Act fast if you’re in the market. **Update: Tix are now spoken for. Sorry**

Weiland In The Slammer

Stone Temple Pilots/former Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weiland has been sentenced to eight days in the slammer stemming from a DUI charge on November 21st. Weiland, 40, entered a plea of no contest, the functional equivalent of a guilty plea in California, to a single misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of alcohol -- his second DUI conviction in nearly four years. Those attending Rock on the Range on May 17th or STP’s show at Playhouse Square on May 20th need not worry. Weiland will not begin serving his sentence until May 28th, which will force Stone Temple Pilots to reschedule some of their current tour dates, but not their Ohio shows.

Child Porn?

Miley Cyrus says she's "so embarrassed" by a photo that suggests she is topless taken by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz that will appear in the new Vanity Fair. "I never intended for any of this to happen and I apologize to my fans who I care so deeply about," Miley, 15, said in a statement. "I'm sorry that my portrait of Miley has been misinterpreted," Leibovitz, known for her celebrity photos, said in a statement. "The photograph is a simple, classic portrait ... I think it is very beautiful." The Disney Channel, which airs Cyrus' TV show, Hannah Montana, was also critical of Vanity Fair. The magazine offered its own defense: "Miley's parents and/or minders were on the set all day," it said. "Since the photo was taken digitally, they saw it on the shoot and everyone thought it was a beautiful and natural portrait of Miley."

Gee. Who would have ever thought a fifteen year old posing topless for Vanity Fair in front of Annie Liebovitz’s camera could have turned out like this? Shocker. Dumbasses.

Virgin Festival Update

Bob Dylan, Iggy & the Stooges, Paramore, Chuck Berry (backed by the Silver Beats), the Black Keys and Wilco will join previously announced headliners Foo Fighters, Jack Johnson, Kanye West, Nine Inch Nails and Stone Temple Pilots for the third annual Virgin Mobile Festival at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore on Aug. 9-10. This festival still aint got shit on Lollapalooza! Road trip to Chicago – August 1-3rd. Who’s coming with us??

NIN Combat Scalpers

Nine Inch Nails is taking their anti-scalper methods to the next level. Many bands have tried the will call method before…making the ticket purchaser the only one who could pick up the tickets purchased on the night of the show, with no tickets being mailed out in advance for prime seats. The only flaw is that diligent scalpers would have plans in place to meet their buyers at the venue and hand off the tickets after they picked them up. So NIN has got a bit craftier. They are now printing individual’s names directly on the ticket, and patrons will need to show ID at the turnstiles that match the name on the ticket to gain admittance to the venue. Genius. Beginning roughly 72 hours prior to each general on-sale, Nine Inch Nails fans registering under their legal names at NIN.com will be offered exclusive advance access to these prime tickets. Ticket quantities are extremely limited and available on a first come first served basis. For further information regarding tour dates, pre-sales, on-sales and other major developments, keep checking back at NIN.com.
