BUST OUT THE BONGS
Cheech and Chong are returning to Cleveland for a theater show at Playhouse Square on January 29th. We’ve beat Playhouse Square’s website and ticketing sources to the story, but we will have information on how to get into the show as soon as it comes across the wire. Just a reminder, Playhouse Square is a smoke free facility.

Barker, DJ AM released from hospital
Former Blink-182 and current +44 drummer Travis Barker was released from the hospital today, just over a week after he escape a fiery plane crash that took the lives of the pilot, co-pilot, and two of the four passengers onboard. DJ AM, the other survivor aboard the plane, was released late last week. Both musicians are expected to make full recoveries. A voice recorder from the cockpit reveals that the pilots thought a tire blew and tried to abort take off.

How do you find an act classier than Tom Petty as the successor to his Super Bowl performance? Well, you don’t. How do you come damn close? Get The Boss. Mr. Bruce Springsteen and his E Street Band will perform at this year’s big game (which our Browns will rebound and be in, no doubt) in front of what is expected to be the largest television audience for a music performance in 2009. Last year, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers drew in 148 million pairs of eyeballs. Hopefully we’ll get to see Bruce (or Max Weinberg) expose their breast, this time without the nipple cover.
Stairway Closed
Robert Plant has quashed any hope that Led Zeppelin will get back together to tour or record. On a statement on his official website, Robert says that he has no intentions of touring for at least the next two years. Damn you, Plant. I must say though, it is nice to see that someone left in the biz isn’t all about the money. My God in Heaven, can you imagine what tickets to see Led Zeppelin would sell for? In other interesting Zeppelin news, it has been widely reported that Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and Jason Bonham (sorry, Dave Grohl) have been rehearsing together, and are mulling over finding a replacement for Plant and tour. Yikes! Zeppelin without Plant? I guess since the Doors tour without Jim Morrison, why not? I just hope Zep makes a better choice than Brett Scallions to be their frontman.
Webcasters Hanging On
Internet webcasters will have more opportunity to negotiate royalties due with SoundExchange, the collecting agency for copyright owners and performers for web broadcasting. H.R. 7084 passed in the House of Representative today, extending negotiations between webcasters and SoundExchange until February 15th, 2009. The Digital Media Association (DiMA), SoundExchange, National Public Radio (NPR) and the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) welcomed the vote. SoundExchange chairman John Simson said in a statement, "This bill favors all webcasters and simulcasters - large and small. It paves the way for SoundExchange to use the coming months to pursue helpful solutions that allow all services to focus on business development. And, although there are no agreements yet, I am hopeful." If SoundExchange and webcasters are not able to reach a new agreement, as it stands now the royalty rates will take a major hike, forcing virtually all small webcasters to shut down, and even giants like Pandora have noted they may have to close their operations.
