CONCERT REVIEW: COLONY HOUSE; LITTLE IMAGE (CLEVELAND, OH; 03.04.23)

Audrey O'Bryon by Audrey O'Bryon
March 6, 2023
in Concert Reviews
Reading Time: 3 mins read

Colony House rocked House of Blues last night (with a HUGE assist from support act, little image).

Colony House has been selling out venues across the country on their Cannonballers Tour. This being the band’s fourth tour, in support of their fourth studio album, ‘The Cannonballers’ (02.03.23, Roon Records) the quartet from Franklin, Tennesse definitely knows how to capture an audience and blow the roof off! Oh, yeah!

To have a chance to tour again after their last nationwide tour was postponed in March 2020 (and eventually, completely canceled), here they are, three years later, filling up venues from coast to coast. For this group to get up and create more music over the course of the pandemic instead of facing defeat just shows how much these four guys are willing to do for the love of music and their adoring fans.

Colony House boldly kicked off their set with “Landlocked Surf Rock” off of the new record and had many in the audience partying from the start. This short but fast-paced song had the audience headbobbing. The second song on the setlist, “Would Ya Could Ya,” opened with the familiar lead guitar from Scott Mills, which REALLY got the audience moving.

Other set highlights included “Cannonballers” as everyone was feeling the west coast riff all the way to their souls, ‘la-laing’ loud into the night. Frontman Caleb Chapman even took a moment to bring a fan named Jul from the crowd to come up on stage to riff along with the band. Chapman complimented him, saying, “You’re making us look poorly dressed! You are very nicely dressed, my friend.”. Jul and Colony House then proceeded to amaze the crowd with a heartfelt jam session that I thought was going to burn the House of Blues to the ground!

The songs the band played from their new record are evidence that despite having their tour abruptly stopped in 2020 due to the pandemic, Colony House has more than enough motivation to put out music with the same vigor (if not more) than they did since their first record release, ‘When I Was Younger’ in 2014.

As part of an epic two-song encore, Colony House performed the title track, “Cannonballers” and ”You Know It”, which were accompanied by heavy audience vocal and physical participation.

Little image, consisting of Jackson Simmons, Troy Bruner, and Brandon Walters started the night off right by performing songs from their recently half-released record ‘Self-Titled,’ as well as one major throwback off of their previous project ‘Musings.‘

The crowd quickly and easily heard this band’s talent thrown in their face, leaving them little choice but to rock along for the ride. They completed their show in Cleveland with a treat by performing a new song titled “BALLET” which was sung and played passionately for the first time live, and I already knew all the words from listening to the song’s release that day. What a rush!

Tonight was my first time seeing and hearing this band, and I am a fast fan! With this easy-listening, fast-paced, fun indie rock, I was moving and grooving with them and their energy the entire show! I’m reminded of how a talented group can become so encapsulating to fans who were not yet familiar with the music. Getting to photograph and review these artists is a blessing and quickly became some of the new highlights of my life.
