There’s a moment about halfway through The Record Company’s set on Monday night at The Globe Iron when guitarist and vocalist Chris Vos locked eyes with the crowd, tilted back his head, and let out a howl that seemed to come from somewhere deep in the American South — not Los Angeles, where this trio actually formed.
The Grammy-nominated band’s set made for a raucous night of blues rock, all in honor of their acclaimed debut album, ‘Give It Back To You,‘ celebrating its ten-year anniversary this month.
The three members walked out to a roar and wasted no time. Opening with “Baby, I’m Broken” and “How High,” they then charged into the debut album’s track list with the confidence of a band that knows exactly what it has. As they worked through the record, they stretched several songs into longer jams, bending the arrangements outward and letting the songs breathe a bit.
Comprised of Vos on guitar and vocals, Alex Stiff on bass and backing vocals, and Marc Cazorla on drums, the group’s gritty, blues-driven sound translated well from studio to stage. Vos is a magnetic frontman, to say the least. He’s at times raw and loose, and others sincere and measured. He could switch between thoughtful and madman on a whim, as he twirled the mic in the air by its cord during “On the Move.” So much fun to watch!
The majority of the setlist, of course, consisted of the debut album, with additional fan favorites rounding out the beginning and end of the set. This setlist has been consistent throughout the tour, except for some fun cover songs in the encore. Monday night was no different, when they played “All Day and All of the Night” by The Kinks as the first song of the encore, before finishing with the infectiously catchy “I’m Getting Better (and I’m Feeling It Right Now).”
Halfway through the set, they switched to acoustic for several songs. While the songs may have been unlugged, the energy remained electric. These acoustic songs included one of their newest, “Last Lonely Winter,” inspired by growing up in Wisconsin. The song will be featured on their upcoming, soon-to-be-finished album.

What struck one most in the room was how big the band sounded for three people. Stiff’s bass is a physical presence, Cazorla’s drumming is equal parts swagger and precision, and Vos, switching between slide guitar, harmonica, and vocals, is a frontman operating at the top of his game. Each member plays at least two instruments, and the musical conversation between them gives the set a looseness that feels spontaneous even when you know they’ve been playing these songs for a decade.
Set highlights included a ferocious “Hard Day Coming Down,” a transcendent, slow-burning “In the Mood for You,” and a euphoric, crowd-sing-along closer, “Give It Back to You,” that felt less like an ending and more like a revival. “Off the Ground,” still the band’s signature moment, stopped the room cold; even for people who’ve heard it a hundred times, it landed like the first time.
That’s the thing about The Record Company. They’ve never been a band that needed a 10th anniversary tour to justify their existence. They’ve been earning it, night after night, in clubs exactly like this one. Monday night wasn’t a victory lap; it was further proof of their staying power.
