Dodie began her career uploading original songs and covers to YouTube. They have over 210 videos, over 1.9M subscribers, and over 370 million views on her main channel!
She has collaborated with many other musicians, including Tessa Violet, Julia Nunes, Lauren Aquilina, Orla Gartland, Thomas Sanders, Jacob Collier, Emma Blackery, Pomplamoose, and Flashback. In 2018, Dodie collaborated with singer Tom Walker on “Human”, the lead single from their third EP, also titled Human.
Dodie has released three independent EPs—Intertwined (2016), You (2017), and Human (2019)—all of which charted within the top 40 of the official UK Albums Chart. Her debut studio album Build a Problem was released on 7 May 2021 and peaked at number 3 on the UK Albums Chart
Dodie is currently on tour in support of 2021 debut, ‘Build a Problem.’ The album’s release was preceded by six singles: “Guiltless,” “Boys Like You,” “Cool Girl,” “Rainbow,” Hate Myself,” and “I Kissed Someone (It Wasn’t You).”
In the weeks leading up to the album’s announcement, d Dodie released a number of videos to her YouTube vlog channel, “doddlevloggle”, in which she knitted one letter of the album title per video.
On May 26, 2021, Dodie made her American TV debut performing “Hate Myself” on Late Night with Seth Meyers.
Previously, Dodie released three extended plays: ‘Intertwined’ (2016), ‘You’ (2017), and ‘Human’ (2019).

Her musical style has been described as “folk-focused,” “folk-pop,” and a blend of “jazz, pop, and R&B.” Her collaborators include Jacob Collier, Dodie, Tom Rosenthal, Ben Kessler, and Thomas Headon
In 2018, McAlpine released an 8-song album, ‘Indigo.’ She wrote her first full album, ‘Give Me A Minute,’ and she released the 13-song album in August 2020. ‘Give Me a Minute’ has been streamed millions of times on Spotify and other digital service providers. Dallas Observer named it one of the best albums of 2020, and BBC Media Centre has called her an “up-and-coming vocalist.” In April 2021, McAlpine released an 8-song EP, ‘When the World Stopped Moving: The Live EP.’ She made her late-night debut on November 22, 2021, performing “erase me” on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.[16]
McAlpine has garnered supporters from TikTok and Instagram, with several publications calling her a “TikTok star.” Her unreleased song “You Ruined the1975,” posted in June 2020, has over 8 million views on TikTok.
