Kacey Musgraves

Joel Voorman

Kacey Musgraves has won six Grammy Awards (including Album of the Year in 2019), seven Country Music Association Awards, and three Academy of Country Music Awards. Musgraves self-released three solo albums and one as Texas Two Bits, before appearing on the fifth season of the USA Network’s singing competition Nashville Star in 2007, where she placed seventh. Musgraves also released a Christmas-themed album, ‘A Very Kacey Christmas,’ in 2016.

Her fourth studio album, ‘Golden Hour’ (2018) was released to widespread critical acclaim and won all four of its nominated Grammy Award categories, including Album of the Year and Best Country Album. The album’s first two singles, “Space Cowboy” and “Butterflies”, won the Grammy Award for Best Country Song and Best Country Solo Performance respectively.

Musgraves’ recent fifth studio album, ‘Star-Crossed,’ was released in September 2021. The album’s subject matter was inspired by Musgraves’ personal journey of heartache and healing following her divorce from American singer-songwriter Ruston Kelly. She described Star-Crossed as chronicling a “modern tragedy”, taking influences from Romeo and Juliet (the famous play by English playwright William Shakespeare), and cited Bill Withers, Daft Punk, Sade, Eagles, and Weezer as her musical references for the album. One of the album’s tracks, “Camera Roll”, received two nominations at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards—Best Country Solo Performance and Best Country Song. In March 2021, Musgraves was featured on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. In the cover story, she delves into self-care and the personal work she has done during the COVID-19 pandemic. Musgraves also revealed that as of January 2021, she had written 39 songs for the project, and she’s once again working with ‘Golden Hour’ co-producers Ian Fitchuk and Daniel Tashian.

Musgraves is not one bit ugly. In fact, quite the opposite.
