Consisting of Raine Maida, Duncan Coutts, Jason Pierce, and Steve Mazur, Our Lady Peace is one of Canada’s most successful bands. They have toured the world and sold over 5 million albums, won four JUNO Awards and ten Much Music Video Awards.
Let us never forget the Summer of 2002. This preview writer was about to head off to college, but not before catching OLP in the Greater Cleveland Area 3x in one summer (including the album release party for ‘Gravity’ at the Mentor Mall, a performance at X-Fest 2002, and, who could forget the incredible taped-for-MTV concert at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! [Video evidence: RIGHT HERE!] This, of course, followed their sold-out (at $12.50/ticket, mind you) show at The Odeon in 2001, supporting their best work to date, ‘Spiritual Machines‘! It’s surprising that Raine and Duncan didn’t buy homes in Ohio.
Speaking of ‘Spiritual Machines’ which arguably is one of the most influential Canadian Alt-Rock albums of the 2000’s as it firmly re-established OLP as the dominant force in Modern Rock, 2021 will reportedly see the release of ‘Spiritual Machines 2′ produced by Dave Sitek (TV on the Radio) and featuring once again audio clips from Ray Kurzweil (Futurist/Author). A return to form both musically and lyrically as OLP embraces their early guitar-driven, rhythmic roots, and cryptic lyrics.
“We’ve been sitting on a new album for over a year. It’s with an abundance of caution that we have chosen select US cities & some famous small venues so we can finally get back to performing live and introduce this new collection of songs to our fans. Beyond excited to see everyone out there this fall.” – Raine Maida
Their single “Stop Making Stupid People Famous” featuring Pussy Riot is now available on all streaming platforms.
While not busy with OLP, Maida released a film and album with his side project Moon Vs Sun, as half of the duo that also includes his wife, singer/songwriter Chantal Kreviazuk.
