Concert Review : All Them Witches | Globe Iron | 12.04.2025

Reading Time: 3 mins read

Psychedelic rock gurus All Them Witches stopped by Cleveland’s Globe Iron Friday night as part of their House of Mirrors tour. Known for their genre-bending sound and heavy jam sessions, the Nashville-based group brought their blend of old and new to the sold-out crowd.

Since they weren’t promoting a new album, the setlist featured a wide variety of songs spanning their decade-plus career. They opened with “The Death of Coyote Woman” from 2013’s ‘Lightning at the Door,‘ a song with all their signature style, including extended guitar riffs, moody synths, and heavy drums. The song set the tone of the show, part traditional Dead-style jam and part modern, metal-inspired psych-out.

While they weren’t necessarily promoting a new album, they did play some “new ones,” as Parks put it. One of those songs was “Starting Line,” a slow build that starts off quiet and eerie, then kicks in with drums and guitar shredding as Parks’ vocals repeat the simple chorus. Rinse and repeat halfway through. It’s one of the three or four songs currently in the tour rotation that fans expect to be on the band’s next release, and if that is the case, it will be quite the album.

Other standout moments included a sprawling, jam-heavy version of “Diamond,” where the band got really out there with it. They fluctuated between slow and moody to dark and heavy throughout the night. They gave an especially unique twist on the cover of “Red Rocking Chair,” a traditional folk song that they really made their own, a sort of stand in for their blend of traditional and modern. They also treated the crowd with a rare playing of “Harvest Feast” from 2018’s ‘ATW,’ a tour first. It’s a more blues-inspired song with some very impressive guitar flourishes from Ben McLeod that had you wondering why they don’t play it live more often.

Their synergy between the four pieces was palpable, with Michael Parks Jr.’s bass anchoring McLeod’s guitar solos and Christian Powers’ drumming, all backed by multi-instrumentalist Allan Van Cleave. The shifts in sound and style were seamless amongst the four. The audience responded in turn to these shifts, swaying, nodding, and singing along, some in homemade witch hats. The band engaged with the audience throughout the set, sharing stories and expressing gratitude for the warm Cleveland welcome on a freezing winter night.

They closed with fan favorite “Alabaster,” which starts with a catchy guitar hook and jangling hi-hat that lead into an excellent showcase for Parks’ vocals, which seemed to pair perfectly with McLeod’s guitar. Then, boom, spaced out jam, heavy on the keys. Just a great song and perfect way to end the set.

If you can get tickets to one of their upcoming shows (most of them are selling out), you should. There’s only one way to listen to a band like this, and that is live. The venues they play are only getting bigger as the band gets discovered by more and more people. That popularity is fueled in large part by the experience of the live show, a blend of modern rock and traditional jam band.
