CONCERT REVIEW | Jelly Roll / Post Malone | Pittsburgh, PA

Reading Time: 5 mins read

It was a night of pop country jubilation and celebration when Jelly Roll and Post Malone stopped by Pittsburgh’s PNC Park as part of their Big Ass Stadium Tour on Thursday (May 29, 2025). The night was filled with anthemic rap-pop and modern country classics, set against the backdrop of the river. In true Post Malone fashion, the night was also one of collaboration. All the acts on the bill have cowritten songs on Post’s latest country album, ‘F-1Trillion.‘

The first opener, the young steel-guitar player Chandler Walters, helped write the smash hit “I Had Some Help,” as well as five other songs on the new album.

Then, the second opener, Sierra Ferrell, played, who helped pen Post’s “Never Love You Again.” Ferrell’s backing band was dressed in light blue uniforms, and she was in a fluffy vintage dress you’d expect to see on the Grand Ole Opry stage. Ferrell’s songs had a traditional country feel but were infused with a variety of other elements, including jazz and bluegrass. She even had a fun cover of Janis Joplin’s “Me and Bobby McGee.” Both acts help set the eclectic tone for the evening.

Next, Jelly Roll played, but not before sports commentator / local celeb Pat McAfee came out to hype up the crowd like it was a major sporting event. The hyping concluded with Jelly coming out and the two of them (attempting) to sing the Styx song “Renegade.” Neither could quite carry the tune, but no one seemed to mind. It was all in good fun.

Jelly Roll then went into more of his comfort zone, with his own “Heart of Stone,” backed by his band and backup singers. Even though this is his (and Post’s) first stadium tour, Jelly took to the big stage like he was born to play it, stopping between songs to further hype the crowd or to make local Pittsburgh references. He joked around with the crowd, asking if they’d like to “Watch a fat man try to ride a pony,” and then did the dance, eliciting cheers.. He made his gratitude for Post clear many times throughout the night, saying how he’d go on tour with Post forever if he could.

Sprinkled throughout the short set were several partial covers and a medley that included classic songs like “Sweet Home Alabama,” as well as songs like the Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa colab, “Young, Wild & Free.” It was exactly what you wanted or expected from a Jelly Roll show.

Post took the stage in full country garb, wearing a plaid shirt tucked into his tight jeans, cowboy boots, and a big belt buckle finishing off the outfit. He carried his signature red Solo cup in one hand. The crowd erupted, and he immediately went into “Texas Tea” off 2023’s ‘Austin,’ an album that seems to have come and gone, but will no doubt eventually be on many “underappreciated” lists. The song was a great opener. Perhaps it’s not quite a ‘stadium’ song, but it’s not quiet either. Then he performed “Wow” and “Better Now,” fully in stadium mode, strutting down the catwalk that extended far into the crowd, with pyrotechnics erupting all around.

For those wondering, it was not going to be a night of just country music. That was clear right away. There were songs spanning Post Malone’s career, like “White Iverson” and his encore, “Congratulations.” The latter of which he performed while on a smaller stage in the center of the crowd, with huge flames shooting out all around him. What a closer!

The entire night was marked by heavy pyrotechnics, with huge flames and fireworks exploding above the stage. This was executed well during a particularly great rendition of “Rockstar.” Post really made sure to utilize the stadium space, as this sort of venue is perfect for such a huge production.

There were quieter moments throughout the two-hour set as well. Post brought out his 1937 Martin acoustic during “Feeling Whitney.” He also brought out Sierra Ferrell to sing “Never Love You Again” in an old-school country duet. In the spirit of collaboration, he also brought out Jelly Roll for their crowd favorite, “Losers,” the two of them endearingly quoting the movie Step Brothers when Jelly first came out.

The last quarter of the setlist consisted of more country elements, such as lap steel, violins, and the dobro, during songs like “Pour Me a Drink.” Then he closed with “Sunflower” and the aforementioned “Congratulations.”

The concert lived up to its name, as this was a BIG ASS STADIUM. The elaborate stage production, setlists full of bangers, and the setting of PNC Park, with the Pittsburgh skyline in the background, made for the perfect combination. It helped that many of Post’s songs seemed to be tailor-made for the stadium setting. This might have been his first stadium tour, but it is unlikely to be his last.
