INTERVIEW: Steve Hackett (Video)

Steve Hackett has been a force in the music scene since he burst onto the scene with Genesis in 1971! The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee has been performing and writing music at an unprecedented rate.

Solo, Steve has released at least 28 albums and was part of six Genesis albums. CleveRock had the absolute pleasure of ZOOMING with Steve ahead of his tour stop in Akron, OH, on November 4.

Over the last 20 years, Team CleveRock has come to realize how fortunate we are to have had the opportunity to speak with certain individuals who have had a profound influence on our lives.

I, myself, have been playing the drums since elementary school and grew up on a lot of music from the ’70s and ’80s. My father (also named Tim Fenner) has been a lifelong fan of Genesis. This is especially true of those years that Steve Hackett was with the group. Sitting down with Steve marked a significant milestone in both my personal and professional life. I was able to discuss a wide range of topics. Selfishly, I was able to explore how his music influenced my life.

It’s challenging to put into simple terms what was discussed. This is a rare glimpse into the mind of Steve Hackett. He shared some fantastic stories of his philosophies about music and where his inspirations come from.

Hackett understands the importance of his time in Genesis to the band’s fans and why he doesn’t need to shy away from it, even though he’s been out of the group for much longer than he was ever in it. Most importantly, Steve shares how he believes that he is writing and performing better today than ever before.

Please sit down, relax, and listen (and watch!) Hackett share an extraordinary glimpse into his approach, tour, career, and what he loves about music.

STEVE HACKETT IS SCHEDULED TO PERFORM AT AKRON, OH’S GOODYEAR THEATRE ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 4. COMPLETE SHOW AND TICKET INFORMATION CAN BE FOUND ON CLEVEROCK’S EVENT LISTING.
