Judah & the Lion’s performance at the House of Blues in Cleveland on April 6, 2025, as part of their “The Process Tour,” delivered an emotionally charged and musically diverse experience that resonated deeply with the audience.
The concert was structured around their 2024 album, ‘The Process,’ with songs performed from that record. Thematically, the record explores the five stages of grief. The band guided the audience through this emotional journey, starting with introspective tracks like “Anger,” along with “Long Dark Night” and “Only Want the Best.”
Formed in Nashville in 2011, Judah & the Lion blend folk instrumentation with genre-bending energy, creating a sound that’s equal parts Americana, hip-hop, and alt-rock. Fronted by vocalist Judah Akers and backed by mandolinist Brian Macdonald, the band broke through with their 2016 hit, “Take It All Back,” which topped Billboard’s Alternative Songs chart.
The stage design was minimalist yet effective, with lighting and visuals that complemented the emotional tone of each song. Projections signifying different stages of grief added depth to the performance, enhancing the storytelling aspect of the concert.
Judah & CO. played two fun covers, Lit’s “My Own Worst Enemy” and Lil Jon’s “Snap Yo Fingers,” engaging the crowd and orchestrating fun singalongs.
Other set highlights included “Over My Head” and “Suit and Jacket,” both of which charted on the Billboard charts.
Toward the end of the set, “Alright (frick it!)” gave way to “Going to Mars” and “Help Me To Feel Again” hybrid. The night concluded with the band’s most recognizable hit (at least to this reviewer), “Take It All Back,” before they disappeared briefly before returning to the stage for an obligatory encore.
The encore included “Maybe the Best is Now” and “sportz,” before saying their goodbyes (this time, for real).
Judah & the Lion’s Cleveland show was more than just a concert; it was an emotional journey that left a lasting impression on all who attended. Their ability to blend heartfelt lyrics with infectious melodies and engaging performances solidifies their place as a must-see live act.
